Canada's National anthem is pretty cool (and yes, I know I'm saying that a lot) here's a link to this website that has a thingo that lets you listen to it.
Canada was one of the original countries to join the commonwealth along with Australia in 1931. Canada's census in 2006 counted a total population of 31,612,897 people, 1,130,761 of which live in the capital city of Ottawa (wikipedia). Above is a picture of their parliament house in Ottawa. (WOW)
The beaver is the animal emblem. This is because in the olden days people killed them so that they could make hats. Before they started this beaver fur trade there were 6 million beavers in Canada, but by the end the furry creature was critically endangered. When the fur trade stopped Canada made the Beaver it's emblem (maybe as a way to say sorry!). The beaver is also on the Canadian nickel.
Now, I'm not giving any prizes out to who guesses what the floral emblem is (I'll give you a clue, the Canadians are obsessed with it)
YAY! YOU WERE RIGHT!!!
It's the maple leaf!! It's said that the maple leaf has been the emblem of Canada since the 1700's and that before that the natives used the sap of the maple tree as food, which got me thinking..........
And Finally, this is the currant coat of arms, It's based on the UK's coat of arms, but has been changeed a little bit to be more Canada-ish ( the maple leaves for example)
This is coat of arms #3. It was in use from 1957-1994
This is the 2nd coat of arms which was used from 1921-1957
The Canadian coat of arms is pretty cool as well. The pictures above show how the coat of arms has changed over the years. Above is the first, which was used from 1905-1921
